License Plate Ring - Randitan
Rings that are made from bits of vintage American license plates that are hand picked, then cut and sanded to fit. Once in place the worn/painted metal is treated to several buffings of wax. Each is approximately 1"x 1" and made with a heavy silver. (Each rings varies and is one of a kind.)
Based near Baltimore Maryland, Randi Tannenbaum re-purposes vintage license plates and other industrial metals into hand cut mosaic style belt buckles, rings and wall art. The vintage painted metals recall a distinctly American car culture. In her words: "The thread that runs through all of my work is a love for the rawness of a material and an appreciation for the effects of time and wear on it. I don't like perfect. I prefer the idiosyncrasies that make each piece unique. Weather and time give a rich patina to painted metals that I find utterly appealing."
